In October 2023 I lost my grandma to Alzheimer’s disease. She was my best friend my whole life. I was born on her 50th birthday and I always used to tell her that meant I was her favorite grandchild. The only thing she’d ever admit was, I was her favorite birthday present.
I could tell my grandma anything and I knew she’d always listen with zero judgment. She kept my biggest secrets and always gave the best advice. I miss her so much every single day and am so very grateful I was able to be with her as she took her last breath.
Grandma is my why in what I am doing. I chose to help support The Alzheimer’s Foundation of America because, while finding a cure for this horrible disease would be amazing, the families going through this now also need our help. Grandma’s number one priority in life was family. She believed that was the most important thing, and I know if she were here today, she’d tell me to help the families; so that’s what I’m going to do. Not only does AFA support and educate about Alzheimer’s, they also offer free memory screenings and virtual activity programs every day.
86% of the money they raise goes directly into their programs and services like providing counseling, education and referrals, free educational conferences, their National Memory Screening Program, professional training, grants for research, respite care, and direct care for patients.
I appreciate any support you can give. You can contribute a one-time donation, and even a regular monthly or annual donation. Or better yet! You can donate a bear to an Alzheimer's patient! Plus, for every donation received, we will also donate one teddy bear to someone with Alzheimer’s.
